About Cheryl

My goal is to teach prevention and reduce chronic illness through a holistic approach. It is important to learn how to overcome obstacles in your life so you can reach your health goals. I want to be your cheerleader and help you be successful in life.

I am a Certified Health Education Specialist. This is a nationally recognized certification that requires a bachelor’s degree, passing an exam, and continuing education courses. I have a Master’s (M.Ed.) of Health and Wellness Education. My bachelor’s degree is from Weber State University in Nutrition Education, Health Promotion, and Children and Family Studies. I am a certified ACE Fitness Instructor and Weight Management Specialist. I love working with kids and I currently work as a Program Coordinator with the Salt Lake County Health Department. I work to prevent substance use among youth through increasing protective factors. I am certified in first aid, CPR, QPR, and food safety.

I love food and am always working in the kitchen. Additionally, I have been coaching children of all ages on the importance of physical, emotional, and social health for several years. I love to play games, go for a hike, travel, and dance. I’m married and have two children.

Wellness SLC

Wellness SLC was founded in 2019 with the intent of teaching children healthy eating habits and reducing childhood obesity. The initial programming was based upon several week-long summer camps for children and teens. Programs extended to community classes at the Glendale Library. Sadly, the programs were temporarily on hold due to the pandemic. Recent changes have allowed me to reopen my doors and extend my services to everyone – not just kids.

Wellness SLC wants to improve the health of the community, reduce obesity, and create healthy habits that last a lifetime. Using evidence-based strategies, Wellness SLC teaches skills that empower others to make healthier life choices. Activities are fun, inclusive, and engaging. All recipes are easy, simple, and made from fresh, whole foods.
